Hugely promising Irish right back from Forest's Academy, considered to be a real prospect for the future. He can also play on the right of midfield, which is where he found himself for the early games of 2007-2007, when injury deprived Forest of most of the their first choice midfield players. Restricted in opportunity by the excellent form of Luke Chambers, Moloney was sent out on loan up the road to Saltergate, where he impressed.

He returned to Forest with his physique developed considerably and on the face of it Forest's lack of a specialist right back was a real opportunity for him. When he was sent out on loan in October 2008, at a time when neither Luke Chambers nor James Perch was proving very convincing at right back, it appeared that he might not be developing as hoped - if he couldn't get in the squad in those circumstances, it didn't appear to bode well. However, a few weeks later he was suddenly recalled and found himself straight in the team at home to Barnsley, when he acquitted himself well in Forest's first win to nil of the season and looked to have reidscovered much of his promise.

Along with a number of his young colleagues, Billy Davies decided for 2009-10 that Moloney would benefit from an extended loan to gain competitive experience, rather than playing meaningless reserve games. He drew the interesting assignment of joining Sven Goran Eriksson's surreal 'project' at Meadow Lane, where he impressed. Notts fans would have loved to sign him permanently, but by the time January came round the whole house of cards was wobbling alarmingly and all the talk of millions had subsided, to be replaced by fears for survival and the tax man applying for winding-up orders. Moloney came back to Forest on 1 January, and looked to go out on loan at a higher level for the remainder of the season; alas, having played only a couple of games for Scunthorpe in a Championship relegation fight (just the sort of experience he needs), he suffered a serious injury to his knee ligaments which ruled him out for the rest of the season. He returned to the City Ground for treatment.
