One of Gary Megson's favourite players - he has signed him more than once - it was no surprise when Dobie appeared at Forest not long after the new manager. To be honest, though a few games in a doomed side is not the best place to judge a player, half a million looks a lot of money.

Dobie has bags of pace and works hard (like all Megson players), but even he admits that he doesn't score that many goals, which you might think is kind of the point of a forward (although, to be entirely fair, he spent a lot of his early career playin as a winger).

All the same, far from rubbish - in particular, he is blessed with considerable pace. However, from the start of the 2005 - 2006 season, he had a serious (possibly even career-threatening) problem with his hip, necessitating surgery in the USA during the Summer of 2006. As a consequence Forest fans still haven't really seen enough of him even now (Summer 2007) to be really sure whether he is any good or not.

Colin Calderwood appeared to have a sneaking suspicion that his pace, excellent attitude and high work rate could yet pay off, so didn't completely discard him (understandably in 2006-2007, when concurrent injuries to Nathan Tyson and Junior Agogo deprived his side of all pace). However, yet more injury and the odd desultory appearance in 2007-2008 led to his eventual sale back to Carlisle in January 2008.
